Looking for Someone in Bali to Rank You in ChatGPT? Read This First

ChatGPT has no fixed position one. What to hire instead, what 24 AI answers showed in Bali, what it costs, and the questions to ask before you pay.

Hiring someone in Bali to get you into ChatGPT

Table of Contents10 sections

I typed "i need to find someone that rank me in chatgpt and also live in bali" into Google. It told me to try a Facebook group.

ChatGPT did better. It named a few agencies, and when I asked again, it named a different few. So who do you hire?

The short version: ChatGPT's answers have no fixed order to climb, so hire someone who measures how often you're named.

A good provider asks your customers' questions in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google every month, shows you who got named, and fixes the pages those answers read.

Nobody can promise you'll be named, whatever their sales page says, but you can tell who's doing the work. Here's how to find that person in Bali, and what it costs.

I run a marketing studio in Bali and sell this monthly check, so you know where I stand. ChatGPT didn't name us either, and I'll show you who it named instead.

Key Takeaways

  • There's no fixed position one in ChatGPT. The names and their order change between runs, places and accounts.
  • What you can hire is someone who checks the answers every month and fixes the pages the assistants read.
  • Before you pay, ask to see how they check the answers: a sample report, a case study, or the check run on their own business.
  • Living in Bali helps with testing your WhatsApp and booking path in person. The checking itself works from anywhere.
  • Walk away from anyone who guarantees you'll be named.

There's No Fixed Rank in ChatGPT

I asked ChatGPT that exact question three times on 24 October, logged out, from Bali. Every answer named a few people to contact, but never the same few.

That isn't a glitch. When ChatGPT searches, it writes each answer fresh from whatever the search finds right then, so the list moves even when the question doesn't.

8ight asked ChatGPT the same local questions 39 minutes apart. The median answer pair shared 29% of its names, and one pair in eleven shared none.

OpenAI says much the same on its ChatGPT search help page, where it warns that search results and citations "can be incomplete, outdated, or incorrect."

Across the three runs, six different sellers came up. Only one was in all three, two were in two, and the other three came up once each.

The Location section of OpenAI's help page Searching the web with ChatGPT: ChatGPT may use an approximate location based on your IP address to provide relevant local results, and device location sharing is optional and off by default.

Those runs were logged out, from a Bali connection. OpenAI says ChatGPT uses an approximate location from your IP, and saved memories when you're logged in. So a customer asking from Sydney may get other names.

SparkToro had 600 volunteers run 12 prompts 2,961 times in ChatGPT, Claude and Google's AI. The same list of brands came back less than once in 100 runs.

So is there a ChatGPT ranking? Sort of. OpenAI says it ranks search results "using multiple factors", then adds: "Placement is not guaranteed." There's an order, but not a fixed one to climb.

That's why people who track this for a living don't report a position. They report how often you're named, across many questions and runs, asked from where your customers are.

And the ads under an answer are a separate product. OpenAI says ads don't influence the answer itself.

Still, you can get two things. You can be named in the answer, like the sellers above, or cited as a source under it, like a guide that lists you.

Both move between runs and between assistants. So what's worth paying for? A monthly check, and work on the pages behind it.

What You're Paying Someone to Do

Call it AI SEO, GEO or AEO, the work underneath is the same five jobs. Only the first one is new.

The jobWhat it looks likeWhat you should see each monthCould you do it yourself?
Check the answersYour customers' questions asked in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google's AI answersWho was named, which pages were cited, datedYes, with a spreadsheet and an hour a week
Fix the sourcesYour Google Business Profile, website, directories and booking listings saying the same thingThe listings changed, and whyMostly
Get onto the lists it citesThe "best clinics in Canggu" guides and directories the answers quote. Most sell their placesWhich lists were cited, which ones you're on, what each one costsYes, but the budget call is yours

Technical minutesSearch bots allowed in robots.txt and by your host or CDN, schema kept currentA line in the reportAsk whoever built your site

The check is the job you can't skip. Without it, nobody knows if the other four worked, the person you're paying included.

ChatGPT's answer to "aesthetic clinic marketing agency in bali": Mersa named first as the specialist option, for marketing audits of aesthetic and skin clinics in Bali

Ask ChatGPT for an "aesthetic clinic marketing agency in bali" and it names Mersa first, as the specialist option.

The narrower the question, the fewer agencies fit it. That's where a page written for one kind of business pays off, like our page for aesthetic clinics.

Being named is half of it. What it says about you is the other half, so read every line it writes about you.

You can run the check by hand, or pay for an AI visibility tracker. Those ask a set list of questions again and again, from a location you choose, and log how often you're named or cited.

The sources matter more than any trick. BrightLocal looked at about 200,000 local prompts, and websites were 42% of the sources cited. Google Business Profiles were 28.5%.

So the dull fixes count. The same name, hours, prices and address everywhere, and a page that answers the question in words an assistant can read.

Then there are the lists.

For a lot of questions, ChatGPT leans on "best of" articles, and many of them sell their places. A few will add you for free, but they publish those lists to make money.

Paying for a place buys you a line in a source, not a spot in the answer. So ask whoever you hire which lists get cited for your questions, and who pays for any placement.

There's no secret code either. Google says there are "no additional requirements" to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode, and no special schema to add.

OpenAI's Overview of OpenAI Crawlers page: OAI-SearchBot is used to surface websites in ChatGPT's search features, and sites opted out of OAI-SearchBot will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers.

One technical line does matter. OpenAI says sites that block its search crawler, OAI-SearchBot, "will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers". Your host or CDN also has to let OpenAI's crawler through, so check both.

That's the check I run in AI Visibility: the same questions in four assistants every month, and the months you're not named go in the report too.

Whoever you talk to, ask which of the five jobs they'll do each month. If the answer is vague, so is the work.

What 24 AI Answers Showed Me

So on 24 October I put eight hiring questions to ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini, six in English and two in Bahasa Indonesia.

That gave 24 answers. Three named nobody at all, and the other 21 named 36 different sellers between them.

What I countedResult
Different sellers named36
Named by all three assistants6
Named only once20
ChatGPT's most-named seller7 of ChatGPT's 8 answers, and none of the other 16

The assistants don't agree. ChatGPT's favourite wasn't named once by Perplexity or Gemini.

Look at where the names come from, too. Gemini showed its sources, and they were "best GEO agencies in Bali" lists. The two on Google's page one were each written by an agency that ranked itself first.

The answers got details wrong as well. ChatGPT quoted one seller's monthly plan at IDR 3 million. That seller's own page says IDR 4,700,000 a month.

So what does this prove? Who you hear about depends on which assistant you ask, and on the day. It says nothing about who does good work.

So when someone offers to get you named, ask which questions they'll count, and from where.

How I Asked

  • When and where: 24 October 2026, from Bali, with a new chat for every question, logged out. Perplexity asked me to sign up after four questions, so I asked its last four signed in, in Incognito mode.
  • What I wrote down: every seller named, and the sources shown beside them. I don't name them here, because one day's answers aren't a recommendation.
  • Its limits: it's one day from one place. A logged-in customer elsewhere will see other names.

Here are the eight questions, exactly as I typed them.

Does It Matter That They Live in Bali?

The search asked for someone who lives here. The assistants don't check that.

Of the four sellers named most often, two are run from Jakarta, with an office or a Maps pin in Bali. ChatGPT even told me to check whether one consultant "currently lives in Bali".

So where does the address help? Here are the five jobs again, plus the one only a local can do well.

The jobWhere living in Bali helpsWhere it makes no difference
Check the answersAsking from a Bali connection, like a customer who's already hereMost tourists ask from home before they fly, so the check should also run from Melbourne or Singapore. A tracker does that from anywhere
Fix the sourcesKnowing which Indonesian directories your customers openThe edits are all made online

Test your booking pathCalling, walking in and messaging your WhatsApp in Bahasa, the way a customer wouldA test message works from anywhere, a walk-in doesn't

Language matters more than the address. The two Bahasa questions brought up 15 sellers, and 6 of them never came up in English.

If some of your customers ask in Bahasa, whoever you hire should check in Bahasa too, and write your pages in it.

And if they do live here, use it. Ask them to book with you as a customer before they touch anything else.

What It Costs in Bali

The assistants can't agree on a price either. Gemini said IDR 1 million to 9.2 million a month, Perplexity 5 to 20 million, and ChatGPT anything from 1.5 million to over 25 million.

So I read the sellers' own pricing pages instead. Here are three that publish prices in rupiah, and mine.

WhoOne-offMonthlyMinimum termThe monthly covers
An agency in DenpasarIDR 1,500,000 check, IDR 4,500,000 with fixesIDR 4,700,000/monthNot stated10 questions tracked daily

MersaIDR 6,000,000 (US$370) auditIDR 4,800,000/month (US$300)1 month, then 30 days' notice4 assistants, sources fixed, 1 answer page

All four prices were read on each seller's own page on 24 October 2026.

The cheapest monthly tier and the dearest are about 80 times apart. That gap is the amount of work, so ask what a person does each month at your price.

Asking 24 questions and writing down the names took me an evening. Below IDR 1 million a month, someone is doing less than that, or a tool is doing it.

The term matters as much as the price. Two of the three want three months or more up front, so you pay for months before you know the check is being done.

Every price we charge is on our pricing page, with the payment terms.

Eight Questions to Ask Before You Pay

Price tells you little. These eight tell you more, and a good provider answers every one without having to think about it.

  1. Which questions will you check, and in which assistants? Ask for the list in writing. It should be your customers' questions in their own words, in Bahasa too if they ask in Bahasa.
  2. Can I see an example of the work? A sample report, a case study, or the check run on their own business. You want dates, questions, who got named and which pages got cited.
  3. Where will you ask from? A clinic whose patients fly in from Perth needs the answers they see in Perth, not only the ones from a Canggu cafe.
  4. Which sources did you fix last month, and how? You want the listing, the change and the date.
  5. What won't you promise? The honest answer is that you'll be named. Nobody controls that.
  6. Who owns the accounts? Your Google Business Profile, your pages and the log should all stay yours when you stop.
  7. What's the minimum term, and the notice? Know how you leave before you start.
  8. Who does the work each month? A name you can message, and whether the writing is done by a person.

Then walk away if you hear any of these.

  • "Guaranteed #1 in ChatGPT." There's no fixed #1 to guarantee, as the first section showed.
  • "We submit your business to ChatGPT." Ask what they submit, and where. The answers come from pages and listings already online.
  • llms.txt sold as the product. It's a small file, and Google has said it doesn't support it. Here's why paying for llms.txt won't get you named.

A Five-Minute Test

You can check a seller before the first call, without asking them anything.

The robots.txt file on mersa.biz: every crawler allowed, then GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, ClaudeBot, Claude-User, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended and Applebot-Extended each listed with Allow.
  • Ask ChatGPT and Perplexity for their kind of service in Bali, the way a customer would, and see who comes up.
  • Open their Google Business Profile. The name, hours and address should match their website.
  • Open their robots.txt (their domain, then /robots.txt). If it blocks OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT search can't show their own pages. Ours is above, with every AI crawler allowed.
  • Find one answer page on their site: a page that answers one question in plain words. They're about to sell you that.

A seller whose own site fails these will do the same to yours.

What You Can Do Before Hiring Anyone

You can run the check yourself this week. It's how I got the 24 answers above, and the 36 behind which aesthetic clinics in Bali the assistants name.

  1. Write five questions the way your customers ask them, as whole sentences: "My tooth hurts and I'm in Seminyak. Which dentist is open right now and not too expensive?"
  2. Add one in Bahasa if locals book you.
  3. Ask each one in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google, logged out or in a private window, with a new chat every time.
  4. Write down who got named and which sources showed beside them.
  5. Do it again next month, with the same questions.

A log can be this plain. These rows are made up, to show the format.

DateQuestionAssistantWere you named?Sources shown
24 OctWhich dentist in Seminyak is open now?ChatGPTYes, 2nd of 4Google Maps, a "best dentists in Bali" guide
24 OctWhich dentist in Seminyak is open now?GeminiNoNone shown
24 Octdokter gigi Seminyak buka sekarangPerplexityYes, 1st of 3Your website, a directory

Three months of that tells you more than any sales call. The sources column is your to-do list: the guides, directories and pages the assistants trust for your questions.

Then fix what you can. Make your Google Business Profile match your website, and check the crawler line from the second section with whoever runs your site.

Where Mersa Fits

We run Mersa from Bali, and the monthly check described above is our AI Visibility plan, at IDR 4,800,000/month (US$300).

It starts with one month, then runs with 30 days' notice. We won't promise you'll be named, and the report says so when you're not.

If you'd rather see where you stand first, the marketing audit checks 13 places in 7 working days, with 90 AI answers among them. Here's how it differs from an SEO audit.

Follow me on LinkedIn if this helped. Fair warning: I think anyone selling you a ChatGPT ranking should show you how they'll measure it first.

Common Questions

Can anyone guarantee that my business will be recommended by ChatGPT in Bali?

No. ChatGPT writes each answer fresh from what its search finds, and OpenAI says placement is not guaranteed. A provider can promise the work instead: your questions checked every month, the sources fixed, and a dated answer log.

How much does it cost to hire someone in Bali to get my business into ChatGPT answers?

From IDR 1,500,000 for a one-off check to about IDR 4,700,000 to 7,500,000 a month for ongoing work, on Indonesian sellers' own pricing pages in October 2026. Two of the three asked for three months or more.

Can I pay OpenAI to have ChatGPT recommend my business instead of hiring someone?

No. ChatGPT ads are a separate product shown beside the answer, and OpenAI says ads do not influence what ChatGPT answers. Being named inside the answer still depends on the pages and listings ChatGPT reads.

Does the person I hire for ChatGPT visibility need to live in Bali, or can it be done remotely?

Mostly remotely. Checking answers, fixing listings and writing pages all happen online. Living in Bali helps with testing your WhatsApp and booking path in person, local photos, and knowing which Canggu and Ubud guides get cited.

How long does it take before ChatGPT starts naming my business once the work begins?

Nobody knows in advance. ChatGPT reads pages as its crawler finds them, and its answers change between runs anyway. Judge the work over three monthly checks of the same questions, never on one answer from one day.

Do ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini name different businesses when customers ask in Bahasa Indonesia?

Yes, often. In 24 answers asked from Bali on 24 October 2026, 6 of the 15 sellers named for two Bahasa Indonesia questions never appeared for the six English ones. Check in both languages if customers use both.
